Operations of a Garment

1. Designing and Concept Development

First of all, as a garment manufacturer, we have to decide the design of our product. Once we were clear with our designs we started executing them.

Research and Trend Analysis: Designers research fashion trends, market needs, and customer preferences.

Sketching and Prototyping: The drawings or computer designs can be made by hand or CAD for much greater visual details.

Selection of Fabrics and Materials: Selecting suitable fabrics, trims, and accessories based on the design of the garment as well as intended use.

While designing we have to kept in mind about the fabric we want to use in that product. Selection of fabric is even more important because this is the key factor which actually decide how our product outcome will look like. We should keep in mind about the quality of fabric as it should be good in quality.

After fabric, accessories also play an important role in garment making like Thread, buttons, elastic, patches, etc.

2. Pattern Making

Pattern Drafting: A pattern maker draws up a pattern for every single body part of the garment. This can be done either manually or by computer software.

Grading: To ensure that the same pattern fits different sizes, grading is applied on the pattern to accommodate any body shape/size.

3. Material Sourcing

Procurement of Fabrics and Trims: Procure the required fabrics and trims. In addition to such procurements, there are inspections and audits of the materials procured to ascertain if they meet specifications.

Analysis of Lead Time: Proper planning ensures that the material arrives on time before the production schedule so it does not exceed the planned schedule.

4. Cutting Stage

Cutting the Fabric: The pattern is followed to cut the fabric.

5. Stitching

Stitching: Stitching of garment take place and tailor make sure that the result come as per need.

Special Techniques: Depending on design, embroidery, beading, or screen printing is applied at this stage.

6. Finishing

Trimming and Cleaning: Excess threads and fabrics are trimmed off and cleaned so that loose threads and particles are removed.

Pressing and Ironing: Garments are pressed to give a finished look. The garment is also pressed to retain the shape.

Labels and Tags Attachments: Brand labels, size tags, and care instructions are attached to the garment.

7. Quality Control

Inspection: Each finished product undergoes an intensive inspection of the garment for the stitching, sizing, and the general appearance. Any defective garments are either repaired or discarded.

8. Packaging

Folding and Packing: The garment is folded nicely and placed inside protective poly bags.

Bulk Packaging: Garments packed in poly-bags in cartons and all the shipping details are appended.

9. Shipping and Distribution

Logistics Coordination: Garments that have been air mailed, sea mailed, or road mailed to the destination.

10. Feedback and Future Improvements

Customer Feedback Loop: The manufacturers or designers can always take feedback from retailers or direct customers and so develop improvements in their future collections.

New designs adjustment–past production runs inform the designing and manufacturing process for future collections, hence constantly improving.

Note: Garment Making techniques

Every garment procedure involves accuracy, coordination, as well as expertise at every stage so as to result in a quality product. The process may change according to the type of the garment, scale of the production, and the requirements of the market.
